Beth among the double letters
Beth is one of the seven double letters in Sefer Yetzirah, associated with paired pronunciations and sevenfold sets such as planets. Recensions disagree about the detailed planetary order; the later Golden Dawn table assigns Mercury and The Magician to Beth.
Beth belongs to the seven doubles. Its double status precedes the Golden Dawn Mercury attribution, whose order should not be projected into every recension.

From Kether to Binah
Kircher places Beth on the opposing upper diagonal from Kether to Binah. Its “house” name does not appear as an architectural drawing; the line’s containing destination supplies a later visual resonance.

The Golden Dawn correspondence gives path 12 the attribution Mercury and the tarot trump The Magician. This row is later than Kircher’s plate and much later than the letter classification.

The Magus in the later table
Crowley renames the Magician as the Magus while retaining Beth and Mercury in the usual row. The title change is a Thelemic editorial layer, not a new Hebrew letter.
The changed title or letter assignment is substantive. Printing both labels without a date would collapse a historical revision into an apparent synonym.

Modern interpretations join directed will, language, skill, and the building of form. They rely heavily on Mercury and the Magus rather than on the biblical use of the letter Beth.
