The letter name is commonly glossed “fence or enclosure.” Kircher places it between Binah and Geburah; the Golden Dawn later aligns it with Cancer and The Chariot. Each statement belongs to a different historical layer.

From Binah to Geburah

Kircher draws Cheth vertically down the left pillar from Binah toward the severe fifth sphere. The straight boundary-side route makes enclosure a structural fact before Chariot symbolism enters.

Binah contributes understanding, while Geburah contributes strength or might.

The Golden Dawn correspondence gives path 18 the attribution Cancer and the tarot trump The Chariot. This row is later than Kircher’s plate and much later than the letter classification.

Modern readings emphasize protected motion, a container carrying force, or discipline under pressure. The Chariot and Cancer add mobility and shell to a line already running along the form side of the tree.

Trace the static vertical line, then add the moving Chariot. The fence gloss and Cancer shell explain containment, while Binah-to-Geburah explains increasing constraint. Motion occurs inside form, not instead of it.
