The letter name is commonly glossed “fishhook.” Kircher places it between Netzach and Yesod; the Golden Dawn later aligns it with Aquarius and The Star. Each statement belongs to a different historical layer.

SEFER YETZIRAH LAYER
Tzaddi among the simple letters
Tzaddi belongs to the twelve simple letters in Sefer Yetzirah, associated with months and zodiacal signs. Their exact ordering varies by recension; the text does not draw the later Netzach to Yesod connection assigned to Tzaddi.
Tzaddi is a simple letter. Aquarius is the Golden Dawn sign assignment; the fishhook gloss predates the tarot overlay.

From Netzach to Yesod
Kircher places Tzaddi on the diagonal from Netzach to Yesod. The line draws desire or endurance inward toward the foundation and image field.
Netzach contributes victory, endurance, or perpetuity, while Yesod contributes foundation.
GOLDEN DAWN ATTRIBUTION
Aquarius and The Star
The Golden Dawn correspondence gives path 28 the attribution Aquarius and the tarot trump The Star. This row is later than Kircher’s plate and much later than the letter classification.
CROWLEY AND 777
The Emperor in Crowley’s letter swap in the later table
Golden Dawn gives Tzaddi, Aquarius, and Star to path 28. Crowley exchanges the Hebrew letters of Star and Emperor, so Tzaddi becomes attached to the Emperor in his later scheme even when charts preserve other numbering conventions.
The changed title or letter assignment is substantive. Printing both labels without a date would collapse a historical revision into an apparent synonym.
MODERN SYNTHESIS
What later readers make of the path
Modern reference charts often mix Golden Dawn Tzaddi–Star with Crowley’s card art or titles. The variant must be stated at row level rather than hidden in a footnote.
WORKED READING
Read path 28 in sequence
Set two rows beside the same connection. Golden Dawn: Tzaddi–Aquarius–Star. Crowley variant: Tzaddi–Aries–Emperor at the exchanged letter-card level. The exercise reveals a historical fork rather than an error to smooth away.
