The letter name is commonly glossed “fish.” Kircher places it between Tiphareth and Netzach; the Golden Dawn later aligns it with Scorpio and Death. Each statement belongs to a different historical layer.

Nun belongs to the twelve simple letters in Sefer Yetzirah, associated with months and zodiacal signs. Their exact ordering varies by recension; the text does not draw the later Tiphareth to Netzach connection assigned to Nun.

Nun is a simple letter. Scorpio is the later zodiacal assignment; the fish gloss belongs to the letter name and should not be turned automatically into a death symbol.

From Tiphareth to Netzach

Kircher places Nun on the diagonal from Tiphereth to Netzach. It moves from the solar center toward the sphere later read through Venus, desire, and endurance.

Tiphareth contributes beauty or glory, while Netzach contributes victory, endurance, or perpetuity.

Scorpio and Death

The Golden Dawn correspondence gives path 24 the attribution Scorpio and the tarot trump Death. This row is later than Kircher’s plate and much later than the letter classification.

Death in the later table

Crowley retains Death and Scorpio, developing transformation and putrefaction language within his alchemical system. The strong card association can eclipse the older letter classification if the layers are not separated.

What later readers make of the path

Modern interpretations stress transformation, release, or desire changing form. The diagonal leaves equilibrium for a more instinctive node, while Scorpio and Death intensify the passage.
