The Celtic Cross is a large spread for exploring a layered question. Six cards form a cross around the present matter, and four form a staff beside it. This version keeps the historical ten-position shape while using contemporary, open questions in place of a fixed prediction.
How to read the layout
Start with positions 1 and 2 together: one names the visible matter, the other asks what crosses it. Position 3 describes an aim or conscious expectation; position 4 asks what may be underneath that stated aim. Positions 5 and 6 turn toward a receding influence and an approaching possibility. These are interpretive prompts, not claims that an event occurred or will occur.
The staff changes the viewpoint. Position 7 asks how you are taking part; 8 calls attention to surroundings and other people without pretending to know their private thoughts; 9 brings hopes and concerns into the open; 10 is a working synthesis. Work from the image and the facts
After revealing a card, note one visible gesture, object, or relation between figures before reading its summary. The result also links to an original full-length card guide with more image details and upright and reversed contexts. This draw uses upright images only. It does not assign a reversal without showing one.
If a card seems severe, compare its imagery with the actual question. A dramatic title need not be a literal forecast. If the matter concerns health, finances, safety, employment, or a relationship, use the layout to identify a practical question, a conversation, or a source of evidence. A random card selection cannot establish hidden facts. The optional question is not included in the page URL and is never transmitted by this tool.
Why ten cards?
A. E. Waite printed a cross-and-staff sequence in The Pictorial Key to the Tarot. His method included a separately chosen significator and a more prescriptive language of divination. Modern reading sites retain the ten drawn positions but vary the labels and explanation. This page names its adaptation plainly: it uses ten drawn cards, omits the extra significator, and treats the outcome position as a provisional synthesis.
