How the diagram is organized
The visible core is an eight-spoked wheel. Around it, Saturn characters terminate the radii. At the edge, four angel names occupy the circular band.
Mathers plate and witness differences
The editor identifies the spokes as Saturn characters and transliterates the four names. Because the caption depends on those readings, a changed letterform in another witness can change what appears to be a proper name.
Plate II is an artifact of Mathers’s 1889 arrangement. His preface and final note say that he compared differing manuscripts and restored difficult Hebrew and magical characters. Sloane 2731 and Lansdowne 1203 remain distinct manuscript objects; this printed crop should not stand in for either one.
