What Mathers’s caption claims
The first Jupiter caption invokes planetary spirits and singles out Parasiel as a master of treasures and their locations.
Within the Jupiter collection, this places figure 18 among themes of treasure, status, protection, visions, and relief from poverty.
Inscription, names, and script
No biblical verse is identified: No separate verse is printed around this figure.
The circular band names Netoniel, Devachiah, Tzedeqiah, and Parasiel.
How the diagram is organized
The visible core is a small central planetary character. Around it, eight radial strokes terminating in Jupiter characters. At the edge, four angel names occupy the border.
Mathers plate and witness differences
Mathers identifies both the character family and the angel names, but gives no verse to stabilize the reading. The plate therefore depends heavily on his transliteration of the manuscript forms.
Plate IV is an artifact of Mathers’s 1889 arrangement. His preface and final note say that he compared differing manuscripts and restored difficult Hebrew and magical characters. Sloane 2731 and Lansdowne 1203 remain distinct manuscript objects; this printed crop should not stand in for either one.
WORKED EXAMPLE
A diagram reading of figure 18
Begin with the repeated Jupiter sign and follow the wheel to the named perimeter. Parasiel is one of four names in the image, yet the prose elevates it above the others; comparing plate and caption shows how editorial prose can assign hierarchy that geometry alone does not display.
