Reading this entry

Haagenti first appears as a mighty bull with griffin wings and then becomes human. He is a president credited with making people wise and teaching a range of subjects. The more specific offices concern transmutation: metals into gold, wine into water, and water into wine. The reciprocal wine-and-water claims should be kept together because the reversal is part of the passage’s pattern.

The text gives no experiment, recipe, or evidence for these transformations. They belong to the grimoire’s attributed wonders, not to verified chemistry. Haagenti commands 33 legions and has a seal. The bull-and-wings image is shared in broad outline with Zagan, the later king and president, but Haagenti’s entry is shorter and does not mention blood or coinage. That comparison helps distinguish neighboring alchemical themes without merging their identities.

What the numbered text says

Haagenti’s winged bull changes to human form before an office that moves from wisdom and instruction to transformations of substances. Metal into gold is one claim; the reciprocal wine-and-water changes are a separate pair, not a general promise of unlimited transmutation. No recipe, experimental condition, or material quantity is supplied. The 33-legion presidency and two-stage body are catalogue descriptors surrounding these attributed works.

About the printed seal

The sign numbered 48 is on frontispiece 5. The seal witnesses Haagenti’s place in this printing; its geometry is not a chemical diagram, and the griffin wings are given in prose rather than decoded from the image.

Compare another entry

Compare entry 49: Crocell. Crocell’s following entry also joins learning with unusual material effects, but its water is heated or made to seem present by sound. Haagenti’s claims concern changing the identities of wine, water, and metal. Their shared intellectual theme leads to different physical claims.
