Why this is a concordance rather than a universal dictionary
A modern dictionary normally promises that a headword can be lifted out of one sentence and carried into another with a stable definition. The surviving Angelical material does not support that promise at ordinary dictionary scale. Dee’s record preserves a limited corpus, and the most accessible printed parallel text gives an Angelical passage beside a much more expansive English rendering. This tool therefore searches phrase units: short stretches divided by sense and punctuation, each tied to its original Call and sequence.
The difference matters immediately. In the first Call, gohu IAD Balata is rendered as a complete reporting clause about the God of Justice. Isolating gohu as though it always meant one modern English word would hide the root family visible elsewhere: gohe, gohia, gohol, and gohulim appear with related ideas of saying or speech. The family is evidence of patterned formation, but the endings do not behave consistently enough to become a full conjugation table.
The rows below follow the spelling printed in The Equinox I:8 in 1912. Hyphens, capitalization, and apparent word boundaries are editorial features of that witness. Other editions normalize several forms differently. A search result should be read as “this phrase occurs here with this accompanying English,” rather than “every token has this fixed definition.”
What the first two Calls reveal
The first Call moves through images of rule, light, garments, law, knowledge, obedience, and revelation. Its opening places sovereignty in the speaker, then describes the Sun as a sword and the Moon as a penetrating fire. The sequence later turns from description to command: Zodacare, eca, od zodameranu is paired with “move, therefore, and show yourselves.” Because the imperative cluster recurs, readers can compare a phrase in context instead of treating a single occurrence as proof.
The second Call begins with a question about winds and voices, builds a series of images around flames, cups, flowers, stone, and a structure held in divine understanding, then ends with imperatives and a request to become a strong seer. Several pieces overlap with the first Call: zodacare, eca, and zodameranu recur. Their repetition is stronger evidence than a lone gloss because position and function can be compared across passages.
The 1912 issue describes the first Call as 86 Angelical words against 169 in the English rendering. That imbalance is not a defect in the search tool; it is one of the most important facts the tool displays. The accompanying English often unfolds compact Angelical units into clauses with articles, possessives, and explanatory phrases. A word-for-word layout would falsely imply alignments the witness does not give.
How to read spelling and repeated forms
Search is intentionally forgiving about case and punctuation, but it does not silently rewrite the source text. A search for zodacare finds the combined unit in Call 1 and the shorter unit in Call 2. A search for “justice” finds the English side of the opening clause. These two paths support different questions: form search locates recurrence, while English search locates where an editor assigned an idea.
Some printed spellings are visibly composite. Forms such as zod-ol, ca-no-quoda, and IA-I-DON preserve hyphenation that may suggest components, pronunciation guidance, or editorial analysis. The concordance keeps those marks so a visitor can compare the exact printed unit. Removing them would make search cleaner but would erase evidence about the edition.
For a wider view, compare the grammar analysis with the Keys and Logaeth comparison. The former tests recurring forms; the latter explains why material from Liber Logaeth should not be poured into the same vocabulary list as the translated Calls without marking the boundary.
