Suppose Hana, Jules, and Omi live above a bakery in an apartment whose pantry wall slides open at noon for flour deliveries. A former landlord retains a brass service token and uses the corridor to send commands through delivery bells.
The residents ward the front door repeatedly, yet all three become obedient whenever a token-bearing cart enters below. Their domestic boundary is not where the lease drawing suggests.

A token should not carry permission after consent ends
The former landlord’s brass credential is enchanted to make old access feel ordinary. Hana can cast The Threshold Rejects the Enchanted Token so it cannot cross the household’s boundary.
This refusal is more exact than sealing every delivery. Flour, workers, and current credentials retain their routes; one hostile token loses authority.
A home ward must know that ownership, residency, and permission change over time. Material access should not outlive the relationship that granted it.

Any resident may welcome a guest into the common room. Only Omi may grant access to Omi’s bedroom; the bakery may use the service corridor during named hours; nobody may renew the former landlord’s token.
This zoning lets the ward preserve hospitality without turning one person’s invitation into total household access.
Clear permission also prevents disputes from being interpreted as magical failure. The ward follows an agreed map rather than guessing at family dynamics.

A guardian needs a task and accountable authority
The moving wall changes with deliveries, so a passive perimeter may not be enough. Jules can cast The Dread Sentinel Bound and bind a formidable spirit to guard the home and answer his call.
The sentinel watches the service route but does not choose residents, punish disagreement, or govern guests. Its office is protection, not household rule.
Responsive wards require more review because a guardian interprets changing conditions. Authority must remain with the residents.

A ward should change when the household changes
Delivery hours shift, residents move, keys are copied, and relationships alter. Review asks whether the mapped zones still match lived authority.
The household records who can revise common permissions and who alone controls private rooms. The ward gains durability from revision rather than pretending permanence.
A boundary that cannot change may eventually protect an empty arrangement against the people who live there now.

A successful map makes the house ordinary again
At noon the pantry still opens, flour still arrives, and the bell becomes only a bell. The hidden architecture remains, but hostile permission no longer travels through it.
