A clear reference for Parāśari graha dṛṣṭi: seven full seventh aspects, six special full aspects, and the distinction between aspecting a sign and aspecting a graha in that sign.
Classical full-aspect rule
In Bṛhat Parāśara Horā Śāstra, chapter 26, verses 2–5, the sage distinguishes sign-based aspects already discussed from planetary aspects. The passage gives every planet a full seventh aspect, then gives Saturn, Jupiter, and Mars two additional special aspects each. The site applies that full-aspect passage to the seven classical visible grahas only. A transliterated verse witness lets readers compare the underlying Sanskrit with the translation.
| Graha | Full aspect positions | Special positions |
|---|---|---|
| Sun | 7 | — |
| Moon | 7 | — |
| Mars | 4, 7, 8 | 4, 8 |
| Mercury | 7 | — |
| Jupiter | 5, 7, 9 | 5, 9 |
| Venus | 7 | — |
| Saturn | 3, 7, 10 | 3, 10 |
Counting is inclusive: the occupied sign is first, the next sign second, and so on. To compute the target sign index, add the stated position minus one and wrap after Pisces. The result is a directed aspect from the source graha to the target sign. A graha occupying that target sign is also listed as a target graha.
Worked examples
Place Jupiter in Aries. Aries is the first sign; Taurus second; Gemini third; Cancer fourth; Leo fifth; Virgo sixth; Libra seventh; Scorpio eighth; Sagittarius ninth. Jupiter fully aspects Leo, Libra, and Sagittarius. If the Moon is in Leo, the output lists Jupiter → Moon. This arrow does not prove a Moon → Jupiter arrow; the Moon’s own full seventh aspect from Leo falls in Aquarius.
Place Mars in Gemini. Counting Gemini first puts its fourth aspect in Virgo, seventh in Sagittarius, and eighth in Capricorn. Place Saturn in Capricorn: its third aspect goes to Pisces, seventh to Cancer, and tenth to Libra. Whole Sign house labels are a second count from Lagna: with Aries Lagna, Libra is house 7; with Cancer Lagna, Libra is house 4. The aspects still land in Libra.
What is outside this calculation?
This is a full sign aspect directory. Chapter 26 also discusses graded or degree-sensitive aspect evaluation. The calculator does not compute those partial strengths, dṛk bala, or orb-based geometry. It does not apply Jaimini rāśi dṛṣṭi, which follows a different sign relationship, and it does not assign aspects to Rāhu, Ketu, Uranus, Neptune, or Pluto. Some contemporary lineages assign aspects to the lunar nodes; they can differ and are left out rather than silently mixed with the seven-graha rule.
Planets sharing one sign are conjunct, not aspects of one another in this table. A graha can aspect an unoccupied sign; the sign table records it even when there is no target planet. Special aspects are directional, so two grahas in the same pair of signs need not aspect each other.
Birth mode uses this site’s independent D1 rāśi chart and approximate Lahiri ayanāṃśa. A supplied historical UTC offset and correct birthplace are needed to derive Lagna. Near a sign boundary, small changes of birth time or ayanāṃśa may alter a target sign. Manual mode assumes all eight signs are already known; it cannot check their source.
Frequently asked questions
Does every graha aspect its seventh sign?
Yes, in this full Parāśari graha dṛṣṭi convention. The seven classical grahas each have the seventh; Mars, Jupiter, and Saturn also have two special full aspects.
Is graha dṛṣṭi the same as rāśi dṛṣṭi?
No. This guide follows the graha aspect rule in chapter 26. Rāśi dṛṣṭi has its own sign-based mapping and should be calculated and labeled separately.
Why do I see a sign but no target graha?
The graha aspects that entire sign even if none of the seven classical planets occupies it. A target graha appears only if its D1 sidereal sign matches that aspected sign.
Why is an arrow not reciprocal?
Every graha has its own outgoing aspect list. A special aspect from Mars or Jupiter may land on another graha without that graha’s outgoing rule landing back on the source.
