The secondary progressed Moon is a symbolic chart position. It starts from the Moon’s calculated geocentric longitude at a recorded birth instant. For every 365.24219 UTC days lived after that instant, this site advances the ephemeris one day. The Moon’s rapid motion in that short symbolic interval becomes a slower progression across years of life. This is the same mapping used by the site's general secondary progressions calculator.
From the birth record to the symbolic moment
The local birth date and clock time first become one UTC instant using the historical offset supplied by the reader. The calculator does not guess a zone from the current computer clock. If a birth record says 12:00 because the actual hour is unknown, a precisely dated progressed Moon timeline would be false precision. If the time is genuinely missing, use the site's unknown-time birth chart and treat Moon degrees as a range.
Suppose the selected life moment is exactly 30 tropical years after birth. Under the stated key, the symbolic ephemeris moment is 30 days after birth, at the same UTC clock instant. The Moon longitude at that symbolic moment is calculated astronomically. It is then interpreted within an astrological time mapping; it is not the real Moon in the sky thirty years later.
Finding an exact tropical sign boundary
Each tropical sign is an equal 30° segment measured from 0° Aries. The search walks through the selected life-date window in sixty-day steps and computes the Moon’s apparent geocentric ecliptic longitude at each corresponding symbolic moment. When it brackets the next 30° boundary, it halves the time interval repeatedly until the crossing is located. The result table names the sign left behind and the sign entered.
Crossings near 360° wrap into 0° Aries. The search unwraps longitude before comparing boundary targets, so that wrap does not appear as a backward leap. It rejects a step if the modeled Moon could have traveled an entire sign between samples. A separate internal check tests each reported boundary immediately before and after its mapped date.
Why the two dates differ
The mapped life date describes when the symbolic progressed position reaches the boundary under the day-for-a-year key. The symbolic ephemeris date is the actual astronomical moment sampled, typically near the original birth year. The CSV retains both UTC instants so the arithmetic can be checked. The article display emphasizes the mapped calendar date because a birth time recorded only to the minute, ephemeris conventions, and tropical-year choice do not justify an event-hour claim.
What the timeline cannot establish
The table does not predict a relationship, career change, or other event. An astrologer may read a progressed Moon sign as one layer in a larger chart, but this calculator supplies only dates and zodiac positions. It omits progressed axes and houses, which require an accurate recorded birth time and a separately chosen progression method. It also does not assign the mapped UTC date to a future local civil zone or handle later daylight-saving transitions.
