When the exact aim is to make the old romance incapable of starting again, she can cast Seal the Ashes of Old Love. The past remains what it was; rekindling becomes impossible. That distinction prevents release from becoming a demand to hate the person one once loved.
Ash is evidence that a fire existed. A seal determines that evidence will not become fuel.
