Hora D2 is a twofold divisional chart in Jyotish. Each 30° sidereal sign supplies two 15° halves. This guide documents the Sun/Moon half-sign rule used by our calculator and distinguishes it from planetary hours and other D2 sign layouts.
Odd signs and even signs
In odd signs the first half is Sun Hora and the second is Moon Hora. In even signs the first half is Moon Hora and the second is Sun Hora. Here “odd” means the first, third, fifth, seventh, ninth, and eleventh signs counted from Aries. A point at 14°59′ Aries is Sun Hora; exactly 15° Aries is Moon Hora. A point at 14°59′ Taurus is Moon Hora; exactly 15° Taurus is Sun Hora.

Parāśara 6.6 gives the half-sign ownership, as does Varāhamihira's Bṛhat Jātaka 1.12. P. V. R. Narasimha Rao's Vedic Astrology: An Integrated Approach, §6.2.2 restates the rule while cautioning that the fuller use of Hora is beyond that explanation.
How we draw the D2 chart
Our calculator places Sun Hora in Leo and Moon Hora in Cancer, the common two-sign rendering described in Rao's Personal Finances from Hora Chart. The rule for identifying which half belongs to which luminary is traditional. Assigning all D2 points to Leo or Cancer is a further display convention. Rao also explains a twelve-sign alternative; other modern D2 variants exist. A result from another site may differ even when both correctly identify the same Sun or Moon Hora.
Within the assigned half, the displayed D2 degree is twice the distance from that half's starting boundary: 7°30′ Aries becomes 15° Leo; 22°30′ Aries becomes 15° Cancer. The calculation has not moved the planet in the physical sky. At exactly 30° Aries the D1 point is 0° Taurus, whose first half is Moon Hora.
Inputs and limits
The base positions are the site's independently calculated sidereal D1 positions: seven classical grahas, mean Rahu and Ketu, and a Lagna derived from the recorded birth time and coordinates. The astronomy library is Astronomy Engine 2.1.19. Our approximate Lahiri ayanamsha and historical UTC offset supplied by the reader affect boundary results. A position within 0.1° of a D1 sign edge or 15° Hora boundary is flagged. The input date range is 1800–2100.
A birth date without a reliable time cannot establish the D2 Lagna. This calculator requires time, latitude, longitude, and the historical offset rather than inventing a noon Lagna. It gives a calculation reference, not a financial forecast. Traditional practice sometimes relates D2 to resources and wealth, but that interpretation cannot be inferred from the placement alone.
