This is a deliberately fictional teaching chart, not the sky on a particular date or a real person's birth record. It demonstrates how one planet, its sign and house, and a close square can be joined without turning a symbol into a verdict.
1. Record positions and assumptions
Assume a tropical chart with Aries rising at 10° and Whole Sign houses. The example assigns Mars to 16° Gemini and Saturn to 17° Pisces. With Aries as house one, Gemini is house three and Pisces is house twelve. Mars is the traditional ruler of Aries, so this imaginary chart puts the Ascendant ruler in the third house. This is a chosen teaching configuration, not a claim that the listed positions occurred together on a date.

The house statements require the chosen Ascendant and system. The Aries rising, Mars in Gemini, Mars in the third, Saturn in Pisces, and Saturn in the twelfth articles each describe a layer. None should be read as the whole chart.
2. Check the square by degree
Gemini starts at 60° around the zodiac, so 16° Gemini is 76°. Pisces starts at 330°, so 17° Pisces is 347°. The direct difference is 271°. The shorter circular distance is 360° − 271° = 89°. A square is centered on 90°, so this example is 1° from exact. The Mars square Saturn guide provides several interpretive questions; exactness tells us why the aspect is worth considering before a much wider contact.
An orb cutoff is a convention that varies between practitioners. “One degree from exact” is a geometric fact for these assigned degrees; “strong” is a judgment. The signs are mutable, but their shared modality is not a substitute for measuring the longitudes. If actual chart software reports rounded degrees, preserve its precise values when available.
3. Write the known-time version
Mars names the function of action and assertion; Gemini suggests a quick, comparative, verbal manner. The third Whole Sign house supplies an everyday communication setting. Saturn names structure and constraint; Pisces suggests a more porous or imaginative setting, while the twelfth house supplies a private or less visible context in this tradition. The 1° square places the two functions in close angular tension. Because Mars also rules the assumed Aries Ascendant, this example gives its position extra relevance to the chart's overall approach.
“In this fictional chart, initiative may work through questions and exchange (Mars in Gemini, third house), while a close Saturn square introduces a question about how much structure those efforts need. The Aries Ascendant makes Mars a useful starting point for the reading. The twelfth-house Saturn context may suggest that some limits are less visible or more private.”
That wording leaves the person's response open. It does not say that communication will fail, that private life is troubled, or that an event will occur. A real reading would inspect the rest of the chart and ask which part resonates before assigning the square a large role.
4. Remove unsupported claims when the time is unknown
Imagine the same Mars and Saturn longitudes were reliably measured within an uncertain birth window, while the Ascendant was unavailable. The sign positions and close square could be retained after checking the full time range. Aries rising, Mars as chart ruler, and both houses must be removed. If the longitudes came only from a noon placeholder, the exact 1° orb would also need a range check rather than being repeated as certain.
