To locate a transiting planet in a natal house, hold the birth chart's cusps fixed and compare the moving planet's tropical longitude with those cusp longitudes. The house entered is determined by the direction of motion at the crossing. The date is a coordinate result; any interpretation remains symbolic and depends on the full chart and actual circumstances.
A cusp is a boundary, not a forecast
A house begins at its numbered cusp. In direct zodiacal motion, a planet crossing cusp 7 moves into natal house 7. If the same planet moves backward across cusp 7 during apparent retrograde motion, it returns to house 6. It may turn direct and cross cusp 7 a third time. The three dates should be kept distinct rather than collapsed into one “entry.” A cusp passage is one measured point within a longer house transit; it is not a guaranteed personal event.
Why the birth record matters
The cusps depend on the recorded local hour, the historical offset from UTC, birthplace coordinates, and the chosen house system. The Ascendant moves rapidly; using noon as a placeholder for an unknown birth time can produce a plausible but false cusp. First check the time zone and daylight saving rule at the birthplace. Then compare the birth chart's cusp table with the result. Whole Sign houses begin at 0° of each sign counting from the rising sign; Equal House begins from the exact Ascendant degree; Porphyry and Placidus produce unequal arcs. A location where Placidus cannot be calculated is reported as unavailable by this tool rather than silently renamed.
How the dates are found
The independent website chart engine fixes twelve natal cusps at the birth moment. Astronomy Engine supplies a moving planet's apparent geocentric ecliptic longitude at each sampled UTC time. The calculator samples hourly for the Moon and every three hours for other planets, subdivides near a cusp or a direction change, and refines bracketed crossings before rounding a UTC result to the minute. Short excursions exceptionally close to a station could escape finite sampling; inspect the positions around a surprising date. The output uses tropical longitudes of date, the standard coordinate convention of this site's Western chart tools. It does not calculate a relocated or progressed house wheel.
Reading a house without flattening it
The table offers a small topic cue for each house: for example, house 3 points toward communication and nearby exchange, while house 10 concerns public role and responsibility. These are prompts to compare with life context, not determinate outcomes. A slow planet may spend years in a natal house; a cusp date names a change of location in the chart, not an instant when the entire period begins to “work.” Consider the transiting planet's natal role, its current aspects, and the uncertainty in your birth time. The house library supplies fuller context, and the calendar gives the measured dates.
