The UTC offset applies to the recorded birth time, including historical daylight saving. The reference coordinates can be your birthplace or another place. Find place coordinates and historical time zone →

What this chart measures

Local Space projects the planets onto a person's local horizon. The compass bearing is the direction from the reference place at the recorded birth instant; altitude says how far above or below the horizon each body was. Changing the reference place recalculates those directions while preserving the birth instant.

The plotted rays follow great circles on an ideal sphere. They show the direction each planet pointed at the reference place, not the planet's position above every point on the line. This page does not assign outcomes to destinations, calculate map crossings, or account for terrain and magnetic north.

Method and limits

Bearings and altitude

The result lists a conventional compass azimuth measured clockwise from north and an alternate legacy bearing measured from south toward west. Altitude indicates whether a body was above or below the geometric horizon. At the exact zenith or nadir, a compass direction has no useful meaning.

Reading the map

Choose a planet to draw its initial and opposite great-circle directions from the reference point. Click the map or enter another place to compare its shortest spherical distance to those full circles. The lines show geometry from the reference point, not where a planet would be overhead along the whole route.

Inputs and limits

The tool uses topocentric apparent coordinates and a geometric horizon without atmospheric refraction. Changing the reference coordinates recalculates the bearings for the same birth instant. It does not model magnetic north, terrain, map crossings, or promised outcomes for destinations.
