What the calculator includes

This tool uses the seven entries under “Fortunes of the Seven Planets” in the English translation of Al-Biruni’s Book of Instruction: Fortune, Spirit, Friendship and love, Despair/penury/fraud, Captivity/prisons/escape, Victory/triumph/aid, and Valour/bravery. The five additional lots use the already calculated Fortune and Spirit, or the chart’s Saturn, Jupiter, or Mars. It does not relabel them as the seven Hermetic lots of Paulus; similar names can conceal different equations.

Automatic sect uses the Sun’s geometric altitude at the entered place and instant. A manual selection exposes the alternative branch. The table prints tropical zodiac positions and Whole Sign house numbers; house numbering is a reading aid and is not an ingredient in these seven formulas. If the birth time, location, or historical UTC offset is uncertain, the apparent precision of the printed degree is misleading. Near a horizon crossing, compare both sect branches.
