Banishing answers who or what must leave. Uncrossing answers which obstructing claim must stop organizing the road. Sometimes the same crisis contains both—and order determines whether the pattern simply finds a new face.

Suppose potter Sio ends a consuming romance with Arden. Each time Sio fires a farewell vessel, Arden appears at the studio door and reconciliation begins. When Arden is away, the kiln cracks every piece bearing Sio’s family mark.
Sio’s grandmother reveals that an ancestor cursed the family: anyone they dismiss must return until love and livelihood break together. Arden is an active returning presence; the kiln pattern is an inherited crossed condition.

Arden continues attempting to reenter a relationship Sio has left. Sio can cast Bar the Former Lover's Return and make him stop trying to return to someone who has moved on.
This is banishing at its cleanest: the target is current contact, the direction is away, and evidence is the end of repeated approaches.
The spell does not diagnose the kiln or heal lineage. It creates distance in which that separate work can occur.
03 / UNCROSS THE REPEATING CONDITION
The family mark carries a claim beyond one lover
Records show the same kiln fracture across generations whenever a relationship ended. Because the curse attaches to descendants and unborn family, Sio can cast End the Bloodline Curse and remove it from every living and future member of the lineage.
This is uncrossing by scale and mechanism. The target is not Arden but the inherited rule that bends separation and livelihood together.
Afterward, a vessel may still crack from clay, heat, or craft error. The return of ordinary causes is evidence the road has cleared.
04 / ORDER CHANGES THE OUTCOME
Distance first may be necessary when the source keeps reapplying pressure
Sio bars Arden’s return before opening the lineage work because each reunion renews the curse’s active expression. The order creates a stable field for diagnosis.
In another case, uncrossing may come first: a compelled person cannot freely choose banishment until the command is removed. The correct sequence follows mechanism, not a universal hierarchy.
Ask which operation makes the other possible and which risk remains if only one is completed.
05 / VERIFY BOTH AXES
No contact and a cleared road require different evidence
Banishing is verified when Arden stops arriving, sending proxies, and seeking reentry. Uncrossing is verified when family-marked vessels can survive farewells without repeating the old fracture.
One success cannot stand in for the other. Quiet from Arden does not prove the kiln free; one sound firing does not prove the relationship closed.
Separate measures prevent relief in one domain from concealing residue in the other.
06 / THE COMPARATIVE VERDICT
Remove the carrier and clear the road it used
Sio’s next farewell vessel survives the kiln and remains unsold on a shelf. Arden does not return. The object is finally neither summons nor battlefield.
Banishing created distance. Uncrossing ended the inherited conversion of distance into loss. Together they restore a future not organized by return.
The distinction remains useful precisely because the operations can cooperate without becoming interchangeable.
